Bonnaroo or Bust!

The goal of our trip is to have the best honeymoon possible.

That is why we decided to go to Bonnaroo in TN, after we leave James' house in NC.

"What is Bonnaroo?" you ask like an idiot.

4 of the best days ever. 80,000 happy campers. 700 Acres of Tennessee Nature. 150 epic performances. 10+ stages of music. Several dozen comedians. An escape into Excitement. Music. Art. Discoveries. Trees. Fresh Air. Green Grass. A mini film fest. Friends (Old / New). Adventure. Overwhelming happiness. Hugging a stranger by accident. Sharing and Generosity. Bonnaroovian Dancing. Hyperbolic verbiage. System overload. The perfect bite of ice cream. Sandals. Fallovers. Chirping Birds. Flashing Lights. Food and Drink. Variety. Singing. Laughing. Short shorts. High-Fives. Rocky IV in the cinema tent at 3am. Spicy Pie. Memories. Someone dressed up like Teen Wolf. Holy Cow(!) Moments. Interesting factoids. Egg sandwiches. More music. Adventure. Deep Breaths. Big smiles. This. That. The Other. Hellos and Goodbyes and reminders of all that we have to celebrate and look forward to next year and in the future.

We debated about doing this, because of the cost.  This part of the trip is going to be the most expensive part.  From what we have heard, it is going to be awesome!  Kim has never been to a festival like this, although, she has had one day passes to some in PA.

In 2006, I went to the Gathering of the Juggalos, which was a similar festival in terms of being in the middle of no where and being four days long.  I had a fantastic time and still look back thinking that it may have been one of the coolest things I have ever done.

This year at Bonnaroo, there are over 150 acts performing, more than thirty comedians, beer brewers tent, Adult Swim games and prizes (I'm looking forward to swinging on the giant dangling uvula), Bonnaroo Cinema (with 24 hour non-stop movie fest), Splash-A-Roo and the Big Ass Water Slide (what?), and camping, and hanging with friends...and so much more that you will need to visit the website to wrap your head around it.
A random photo I found online, but if this is
what to expect, call me excited!!!

Here is a list of groups we are excited to see:

  • Red Hot Chili Peppers! (Check it off the lifetime list)
  • Ben Folds FIVE! -Yes the BFF are making a brand new album and playing a few shows, this being one of them.  I never thought I would ever see them!!
  • The Beach Boys! (50th year anniversery)
What the hell, here is the WHOLE LIST (Click away)!
We are SO freakin excited!!

Spring Break '12 (aka The Warm-Up)

Kim and I on a plane together for the first time!
(1st, 7 MORE WEEKS!!! Ok, continue)

Well, we are back in Myrtle after a great spring break.  I am looking at T-minus 9 hours until work again...blah...

But let's run down how awesome the spring break was:

  1. Sat- The triplets had an awesome 5th birthday party.  We had a great time!
  2. Sun- We went to Vanderbilt Beach, on the Gulf of Mexico (I got sun burnt)
  3. Mon- We went to the Imaginarium, a cool hands on place where we got to pet animals
  4. Tues- We went to Lovers Key State Park (awesome place)
  5. Wed- We got an 80 minute massage!
  6. Thur- We went to a Florida museum and on an air boat ride, which was awesome and saw the sunset over the Gulf!
  7. Fri- We drove to Fort Lauderdale and went to the Hard Rock Casino, we broke even.
  8. Sat- We saw the triplets compete in a cheerleading competition.  THEN finally flew back home.
Chillin on the beach under the sweet SC
umbrella that they sold in FLORIDA!!

I look at this trip as the warm-up for the honeymoon.  If this is what I have to look forward to for the rest of my life, then life is AWESOME!

PREMOONING

Today is exactly seven weeks and five days until go time!!

"Go where?" you might ask yourself.

"To some place awesome!" is how you would answer if you were me.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves.  Right now Kim and I are sitting in a largeish mansion of sorts in Naples, Florida.  I know what you are now thinking; you are thinking "Did you guys start early on your honeymoon?"

In a way we did, but in a more realistic way, no, not at all...something about going back to work for more than seven weeks seems suckish and unhoneymoonlike (yes those are words, no don't google them).  We are visiting Kim's family in Florida for our spring break  So far it has been all kinds of awesome!  For example, today we went and had a full body massage (no volcano finish) and it was amazing.  There is currently enough oil on mine and Kim's skin to power my Chevy for 3000 miles (or the next scheduled oil change).

I thought I would take a cue from my buddy Joey and keep a travel log of our honeymoon trip for anyone interested.  Here is what is 100% confirmed so far:
  1. We will be departing on said trip June 4th, 2012!
  2. We will be stopping in Canton, NC to hang with James and Nathalie!
  3. We have tickets to Bonaroo June 7th-11th, 2012 in Manchester, TN!
  4. We have a hotel in Nashville, TN!
  5. We have a hotel in St. Louis, MS!
We have started building a road trip book to guide us along our way.  I will post some routes we will be taking soon...Like this one, day 1 to Canton, NC!

Oh, Google maps need to be zoomed out to see the whole thing!

I will leave you with a picture of the Gulf of Mexico from my beach chair.
